SafeDem blasts three 26-storey towers in Glasgow

SafeDem has successfully demolished three 26-storey residential towers in Glasgow, Scotland, by explosive means.
The structures, known locally as the Wyndford towers and located at 151, 171 and 191 Wyndford Road in the Maryhill area of the city, were among four such buildings constructed in the 1960s.
Deemed to be no longer fit for purpose by their owner, Wheatley Homes Glasgow, their demolition is part of a £100 million (US$129 million) redevelopment and regeneration project that will see just over 380 new homes built on the site.
The implosive event that brought down the three towers took place on the morning of Sunday 23 March, after months of preparation and planning. The fourth tower on the site is being taken down using the top-down method, and its dismantling is already underway.
Commenting on the explosive demolition, SafeDem said: “A total non-electric initiation system was deployed on 21 blast floors to demolish the buildings by controlled explosives engineering. The demolition of the buildings went exactly as planned”.
