Rough-terrain material handling equipment manufacturer Manitou has introduced its new 'Privilege' line of high lift telescopic handlers. The 13.5 m (44.3 ft) lift height MT 1440 replaces the MT 1435 model, and the 17.5 m (57.4 ft) MT 1840 replaces the MT 1740. Both models, in production now and available globally, have a maximum lifting capacity of 4,000 kg (8,800lb).

The 10.8 tonne MT 1440 reaches out to a maximum of 9.4 m (30.8 ft) with a 1,500 kg (3,3,00 lb) load, and out to 5.1 m (16.7 ft) with its maximum rated load of 4,000 kg. The 11.4 tonne MT 1840 meanwhile can place 700 kg (1,540 lb) out to 13.2 m (43.3 ft) and 4,000 kg to 5.0 m (16.4 ft). Both are available as three models, depending on the application.

The two models are very similar dimensionally. The overall width is 2.38 and 2.40 m (7.88 and 7.9 ft), height is 2.45 and 2.50 m (8 and 8.2 ft), and overall length is 6.13 and 6.27 m (20.1 and 20.6 ft) for the MT 1440 and MT 1435 respectively. Both have a turning radius of less than 4 m (13.1 ft).

A Perkins 1104C.44 T engine powers the machines, rated at 60 kW for the rental version of the MT 1440, and 74.5 kW for the rest. A four-speed torque converter provides forward and reverse speeds of up to 25 km/h, and a hydrostatic transmission option will be available in January.

Attachments include side-shifting forks, a 1 m3 pickup bucket, a 0.9 m3 earth-moving bucket, and an access work platform with a 1,000 kg capacity (2,200lb).
