Skanska has won a contract with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to replace the Livingstone Avenue Bridge in Albany, New York, USA.

The $596 million contract involves removing the existing bridge and replacing it with a moveable two-track vertical lift railway bridge over the Hudson River to connect the cities of Albany and Rensselaer.

The bridge sits on the Empire Corridor, one of 11 federally designated high speed rail corridors in the US. It carries passenger rail services between New York City and Niagara Falls and is the only upstate passenger rail crossing of the Hudson River. It also carries two to six freight trains daily.

The scope of Skanska’s work on the bridge includes the construction of control and machinery rooms, the installation of new railroad signals, the implementation electrical infrastructure, and bridge and navigation lighting, realignment and improvements.

Work started in May 2024 and is due to complete in March 2028.
