Tyrolit brings cold cutting technology to explosive environments

Premium Content

Austria-based Tyrolit has introduced an ATEX (Atmosphere Explosibles) certified diamond wire saw system for Zone 1 explosion-hazardous areas.

ATEX is the European Union explosion protection directive, which regulates compliance with the basic health and safety requirements for machines and protection systems for proper use in explosion-hazardous areas.

This cold cutting technology enables the implementation of complex projects in the field of service and expansion of chemical plants and oil facilities, and the system has now been adapted according to the current standards, recertified and complies with the current health and safety directives according to 2014/34/EU for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive areas.

Tyrolit’s existing system consisting of the SB Premium hydraulic wire saw SB and DWS-S ATEX galvanic sawing wire for steel has been extended with a certified protective cabin.

This contains connections suitable for the PPH40RR drive as well as an ATEX-certified remote control and is thus optimally suited for companies that do not yet have an ATEX-certified unit and would like to use a versatile drive.

In environments where there is a risk of explosive gases, the innovative wire saw system can be used to cut pipes and other steel structures, using only drives that are already certified.

Tyrolit says this means users only need to obtain the approvals, permits and authorisations required for the work process, which significantly cuts the costs and time involved in preparing for work.
