UK CDM specialist RVA Group is currently supporting a un-named major oil and gas operator during the decommissioning and dismantling of a sulphuric acid plant in Barrow-in-Furness in Lancashire, UK. On site since January, RVA is carrying out decommissioning preparations, risk assessments and establishing the procedures required to ensure safe conduct of the dismantling work. The Group will act as project manager and CDM co-ordinator until the plant has been full cleared.

The plant being decommissioned consists of a reactor, concentration structure, furnace and precipitator, stack and pipework. Decommissioning will only begin once a new state-of-the-art replacement has been installed and commissioned. This new plant reflects the client's aim of having the safest, most efficient and reliable processing plant available.

RVA managing director Richard Vann said of the project: An increasing number of decommissioning projects are being discussed within this sector as oil and gas operators seek to develop the quality and efficiency of their installations and remove more outdated assets that may be approaching the end of their life."
