Metso ups Indian presence

15 April 2008

Metso Minerals has announced that, subject to regulatory approval, it is to spend E30 million (US$47.5 million) to establish what it will call its ‘Metso Park’ multi-functional industrial facility near the city of Alwar in the state of Rajasthan, India.

The company says that the development, which will also host selected key suppliers, is intended initially to meet the rapid growth it is seeing for its products and services in the country, as well as servicing other Metso businesses.

The new facility will initially manufacture mobile screening plants, pumps and rubber products for the Indian construction industry, with some products also going for export. The new facility is expected to commence operation in the second half of 2009, and employee numbers at the site are expected to reach 700 by 2012.

The new plant will include office accommodation, a number of workshops, warehousing and a logistics center. Metso hopes to encourage partners onto the new site, where it believes they will benefit from the infrastructure services that will be available.

This investment on the part of Metso follows its E12.5 million (US$20 million) investment to expand its foundry, manufacturing and office facilities in the country, which accounted for Euro 150 million (US$238 million) of Metso’s net sales in 2007.
