Launched in 2020 by Rototilt and Steelwrist, Open-S is a standard for fully automatic quick couplers that means excavators can use tools of different brands that follow the standard.

To date it has amassed 23 members around the world, including nine new members this year alone.

Epiroc, which manufactures a variety of excavator attachments, said the move to join the initiative will help to create a more sustainable industry.

It’s subsidiary ACB+, which it acquired this year, is also joining as an Associate member.

Predrag Petrovic, Vice President Business Line Hydraulic Attachment Tools at Epiroc said: “By joining the Open-S Alliance, we reinforce our commitment to delivering open, compatible solutions that empower customer freedom of choice. This shared standard is not just about technology – it´s about building a more efficient, connected, and sustainable industry.”

Genesis Attachments, based in the US, designs and manufactures hydraulic mobile shears, grapples, concrete processors and specialty attachments.

Roger Johnson, Director of Engineering, said the Open-S standards “are a foundation to maintain the best interests of the owners and operators.”

He said: “The information shared through Open-S will ensure that Genesis can continue to offer advanced attachment solutions that seamlessly integrate with supplementary equipment in the field.”

Meanwhile, Kanamoto becomes the second Japan-based member of Open-S, after Nishio Rent All joined in August this year.

The company joins as a Supporting member and said it is actively promoting the adoption of Open-S standard attachments in Japan, Southeast Asia and Oceania through its construction equipment rental business.

Jun Watanabe, Member of Board of Directors and Division Manager, Construction Equipment Rental Division, Kanamoto, commented: “While incorporating feedback from job sites, Kanamoto will continue to collaborate with other members of the Open-S Alliance to develop innovative attachments that enhance productivity and safety on construction sites.”

Welcoming the companies to Open-S, Stefan Stockhaus, chairman of the board of the Open-S Alliance, said “their participation will help propel the next phase of our growth.”

“The new members further underscores the momentum behind Open-S and emphasize the importance of interoperability and customer choice,” he said.
