Komatsu announces change to UK distribution network

Komatsu Europe is to overhaul its distribution structure in the UK, with its Ireland-based distributor McHale Plant Sales set to take over as the official distributor of its construction and utility equipment from Marubeni-Komatsu (MKL) in 2026.

As part of the deal, McHale Plant Sales is to acquire MKL, while Komatsu Europe will take a minority stake in McHale.

Under the agreement, McHale Plant Sales will assume responsibility for all UK distribution, sales, and aftersales support.

All existing MKL branches will be retained, with McHale planning further investment in service, parts supply, and customer support.

Komatsu said the move is intended to strengthen service delivery, deepen customer support, and create a more integrated distribution network across the UK. McHale currently serves as Komatsu’s distributor in Ireland.

Tadashi Maeda, CEO & managing director, Komatsu Europe International, said: “This is an exciting new chapter for Komatsu in the UK. By partnering with McHale, we are bringing together deep industry knowledge, customer dedication, and operational excellence to serve our UK customers even better.

“Komatsu’s minority participation in McHale underlines our long-term commitment to the UK market, ensuring strength, stability, and confidence for our customers across the country.”

Michael McHale, chairman of McHale Plant Sales, added: “This is a proud moment for our team. The Komatsu brand has been central to our success in Ireland for many years, and with our enhanced distribution reach we are now in a position to bring our customer-focused approach, experience, and dedication to excellence to the UK.”

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in January.
