Metso hits for six

11 May 2015

Shimizu Corporation will take delivery of six LT 120 Lokotrack mobile jaw crushers to assist with a major landfill project that it is carrying out in the Tohoku region of Japan. The LT120's were sold by Metso's Japanese distributor UBE Machinery Co. Ltd., who will also take care of the service and parts related tasks, and will be used to crush 6-7 million tonnes of aggregates to a tight project schedule.

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami caused significant sinking of the ground level in several coastal areas in the northern part of Honshu island and before new construction works can begin, the level has to be raised by several metres with aggregates.

The Lokotrack LT120 is built around the proven C120 jaw crusher. With its 1,200 x 870 mm (4 x 2.9 ft) feed opening, the jaw can accept even large-sized boulders as feed material. The LT120 weighs 60 tonnes and is powered by a modern 314kW (421 hp) Cat C13 diesel.

The Lokotracks are being manufactured at Metso's facility in Tampere, Finland, and will be delivered to Japan in spring 2015. At the sites in the Tohoku region, they will be operated as single units producing 0-200 mm (0-8 inch) aggregates.
