Maximum demolition

01 April 2009

US equipment supplier Metabo Corporation has introduced a new demolition hammer in the shape of the 12 kg (26.5 lb) MHE 96 SDS-Max that features a 15 Amp motor along with Metabo's VibraTech technology, which reduces vibration, resulting in lower user fatigue, through an integrated damper system that is incorporated into the main and side handles.

The company says that the new hammer is suitable for use in demolition, stone, concrete and brick applications, such as sizing concrete openings fro doors and windows and chasing cracks during floor repairs.

The 15 A motor provides from 0 to 1,950 beats per minute and 1 J to 27 J of single blow energy. Metabo's vario tacho constamatic (VTC) electronic speed control allows the tool to keep up a virtually constant number of blows per minute between load and no-load, says the company, to maximise operator productivity. An electronic soft start provides precision control.

Rounded-off areas on both the handles and the motor casing allow a comfortable working position to be easily achieved, and the VT-damped side handle can be positioned in three different positions.

Durability is achieved through the use of an aluminium die-cast gearbox housing, a protected service display, a voltage overload signal lamp, a safety clutch and auto-stop carbon brushes. It also makes use of a winding protection grid that deflects dust and debris away from the motor, which Metabo claims provides a service life five times longer than tools that lack such protection.
