York, currently president of Solar Turbines and a Caterpillar senior vice president, will take up the role on 1 November 2026. Johnson will move into an advisory position from the same date before retiring on 1 February 2027.
Resource Industries encompasses Caterpillar’s mining business and related technologies, including its work in mining autonomy.
Johnson has led the segment since 2016, having joined Caterpillar in 2011. She took charge during a downturn in the mining industry and has since overseen the development of Caterpillar’s mining technology and autonomy offering.
Caterpillar chairman and CEO Joe Creed said, “Denise took on a critical role during one of the mining industry’s most challenging times. Her disciplined leadership restored Resource Industries to profitability and positioned Caterpillar as an industry leader in mining autonomy and technology.”
York has led Solar Turbines since 2023. The Caterpillar business supplies industrial gas turbines and compressors for oil and gas and power generation applications.
During 16 years with Caterpillar, York has also served as senior vice president of the company’s Oil & Gas and Marine division and held leadership roles in finance and corporate development.
Creed described York as a, “highly respected leader who understands our customers, our strategy and the industries we serve.”
