Manufacturers Rototilt and Steelwrist have formed an alliance that aims to see integrated oil couplings included in the Symmetrical Standards for the global interchangeability of equipment attachments.

With more manufacturers releasing fully automatic quick couplers the interchangeability between different brands is said to have become more of an issue.

Stefan Stockhaus, CEO of Steelwrist, said: “We clearly see that there is a need for the Alliance, as our SQ range have been booming since we launched almost three years ago.

“The main reason why we have been working to create the Alliance is that we do not believe in locking customers into proprietary solutions that they must live with forever.”

Rototilt said the alliance was striving for a competitive and open industry standard, that could not be controlled by any single producer.

The alliance wants the retrofitting of adaptor brackets to buckets to be more cost efficient, and also aims to increase the safety, flexibility and efficiency for the ground workers on construction sites, as well as excavator owners and operators.

Anders Jonsson, CEO of Rototilt Group, said: “When we now launch and extend our QuickChange range of Fully Automatic Quick Couplers it was only natural to build on the Symmetrical standard, which we have followed since 20 years, that was already compact, relatively light weight and robust.

“With the addition of oil couplings and an electrical interface it will be unrivalled on the international market.”

The manufacturers said joining the alliance is open to other manufacturers that have developed compatible solutions.
