A new certification exam for demolition technicians is being developed by the US National Demolition Association (NDA), with industry experts invited to participate in the process.

The “Certified Demolition Technician Exam” aims to assess the competencies needed for certification within the demolition field.

To ensure the exam reflects the skills and knowledge required in the profession, the NDA is inviting industry professional to take part in a series of workshops to help develop the qualification.

The NDA said: “The workshop will involve creating test items that accurately assess the competencies needed for certification, ensuring that the exam reflects real-world skills and knowledge.

“This is a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the certification standards and to contribute to the future of the demolition profession.”

Professionals from the demolition industry are being sought to join the “item writing” workshops, where participants will contribute to the development of exam questions. These questions, or “items”, will be designed to assess candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in alignment with the exam’s content outline.

Participants will be expected to attend a virtual training session on the item writing process and to engage in a further two to three virtual meetings between November and February.

The process will culminate in an in-person workshop in late January 2025. No prior experience in item writing is required, as full training and guidance will be provided.

Applications for participation must be submitted by Friday, 1 November 2024, via the NDA’s application page: NDA CDT Item Writing Volunteer Application - Formstack.
