Colemans site receives visit from politician

UK-based specialist contractor Colemans has received a visit from the Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry at its Regina Road estate in South Norwood, where the company is carrying out the deconstruction of the first large-panel system (LPS) tower block as part of a major regeneration programme.

The estate, which comprises three 11-storey towers and several low-rise blocks built in the 1960s, is being redeveloped after residents voted in favour of full regeneration in 2023.

The plans will see the existing buildings replaced with new homes and community spaces.

Colemans began work on site in January 2025, with deconstruction of the first block, 1–87 Regina Road, starting this month.

The building is expected to be fully removed by autumn. Measures including hoardings, building wraps and dust and noise controls are in place to limit disruption to local residents.

During his visit, Mayor Perry met project staff and residents, including Lewis, a Regina Road resident who has completed more than 20 e-learning courses with Colemans and is now being considered for a role on site.

Andy Crawford, Project Manager at Colemans, said the company was focused on creating social value through the scheme: “Working with Croydon residents like Lewis is a big part of how we deliver social value. The Regina Road regeneration is an important project for this community and giving local people the chance to work on it helps build skills and creates opportunities that last beyond the demolition.

“We are pleased to be supporting Lewis as he starts his career in our industry sector.”
