The scope of the contract, which is valued at US$90 million (SEK960 million), includes the demolition of some existing structures and facilities, which once complete, will enable the creation of 12,100-sq-m of addition space.

Buildings set for demolition are believed to include the Elliott Building, with the hospital’s North Wing facilities also expected to undergo some form of dismantling works.

Skanska’s contract is just one part of a US$300 million expansion programme that will add a further 207 rooms to the hospital’s facilities, effectively tripling the size of the organisation’s flagship emergency department.

The expansion project also includes the relocation and installation of underground utilities to support the enlarged medical facility, which will be completed in two phases.

While the new emergency department expansion will be completed in 2025, renovation works to the existing emergency facility will be completed in 2027.
