Atlas Copco's new SB 452 hydraulic breaker for excavators up to 13 tonnes extends the company's line

Atlas Copco's new SB 452 hydraulic breaker for excavators up to 13 tonnes extends the company's line up of new generation solid body breakers.

Atlas Copco has introduced the SB 452 to its light breaker range for excavators up to 13 tonnes. The new model extends the company's line up of new generation solid body breakers, used for road work, trenching, general demolition, and landscaping.

According to the company the weight-impact ratio of the solid body breakers is unmatched - no matter which SB breaker from the 50 kg class up to the 500 kg class is used. To achieve the same impact with a heavier conventional breaker would also require a larger and thirstier carrier, Atlas Copco said.

Thord Wikström, product line manager, said, "One of the most important features in the new design is the floating bushing, which makes service and maintenance really easy."

He added the new SB 452 features a +12% increase in the single blow impact energy compared to the previous model, which results in higher performance and breaking power. In addition the new body design generates lower vibrations and less noise.

Mr Wikström said, "A solid body breaker is machined from a single block of steel. This method provides a number of benefits, such as no side or head bolts and a unique resistance to bending forces and operator abuse. Another advantage is fewer parts and less maintenance."

According to the company the slim design of the SB 452 makes positioning easy. The compact dimensions also allow work to take place in confined applications such as indoor demolition work, along house walls and in narrow trenching.

Atlas Copco said the SB 452 offers the highest performance and breaking power in its class due to a new hydraulic system that delivers higher efficiency and improved energy recovery.
