Didcot A demolition date announced

RWE has announced  a “phased approach” to the Didcot A power station in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, with demolition of the remaining cooling towers scheduled for August 18.

A company statement said: ”RWE is currently planning the demolition of remaining structures at Didcot A Power Station. We plan to undertake a phased approach to this demolition, with the remaining cooling towers expected to be taken down on Sunday August 18. The chimney will then be demolished separately later in the autumn.

”We are committed to reducing disruption caused by the demolition to the greatest degree possible and are working closely with our contractors, Brown and Mason, to ensure we can achieve this.

“Health and safety remains our absolutely number one priority, and we are liaising with the relevant authorities to safely manage the demolition process. Further details of the planned activity will be made available closer to the date.”

Brown and Mason took over as demolition contractor on the project in April 2016 after an accident in the power station’s boiler house claimed the lives of four workers two months previously.
