The work involves dismantling structural steel, operating specialist plant within tight airside constraints, and phasing operations to maintain ongoing airport activity. The project also includes full material recovery and environmental protection measures.
Total Controlled Demolition said safety is a key priority due to the live runway environment.
As such, it has implemented airside risk protocols, including coordination with airfield operations, foreign object debris monitoring, exclusion zones, dust and vibration control, and precise dismantling techniques to avoid disruption to aircraft movement or infrastructure.
The company has previously worked on technically challenging projects, including the Heaps Rice Mill deconstruction, which was a winner of the 2025 World Demolition Awards in the which took home the Contract of the Year (under US$1 million) category.
The Airbus assignment adds to its portfolio of complex demolition projects in aviation, industrial, and heritage sectors.
The company, headquartered in Stalybridge, described the project as very technically challenging, but said its “dedicated management team and demolition site teams have the experience and capabilities to deliver another fantastic project at Airbus.”
