Contractor awarded Fiddlers Ferry Power Station demolition contract

UK-based demolition firm DSM Demolition has been appointed to manage the next phase of works at the former Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Warrington, England.

The Birmingham-headquartered contractor will carry out a programme of demolition works, including specialist asbestos removal, alongside the removal of key industrial assets remaining on the site.
These assets include the remaining conveyors, the flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) plant, precipitators and storage silos, as well as the systematic de-planting of the turbine hall and control room building.
The works, which started on December 1, are expected to take 18 months to complete, according to Peel NRE, the low-carbon development specialist that awarded the contract.

Once complete, the regeneration of the site will include the construction of more than 860 homes, alongside a 150MW battery energy storage facility.
