CEO for the NFDC

By Lindsay Gale12 March 2008

Howard Button, until recently the national secretary of the UK's National Federation of Demolition Contractors, has been appointed to the position of chief executive of the Federation.

As a working contractor, Mr Button has been actively involved with the Federation, serving in a variety of positions with the London and Southern Counties branch, moving on to senior positions within the Federation itself and culminating as president of the Federation from 1996 to 1999. Subsequent to the sale of his family company, Button Demolition, two and half years ago, he was appointed to the position of national secretary.

In conversation with D&Ri, Mr Button said: “I do not see that the change of job title will change the nature of the work I will do for the Federation in the future. It is, in part, a recognition of the work that I have done over the last two and half years, as well as a job title for the role I fill that is more in keeping with modern times.”

In a statement, NFDC president John Wring said: “Howard Button has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the demolition industry and has, in fact, helped shape the industry as we know it. It is through his drive, enthusiasm and commitment that many of the Federation's aims have been achieved. He has been instrumental in making sites safer and in making the industry more professional. Most recently, he has single-handedly seized the training nettle to create the NFDC's own NVQ accreditation centre and to reignite the National Demolition Training Group. His appointment as chief executive is well deserved and probably long overdue.”
