Works are now well underway at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, Spain, with the existing third tier spectator stands now being demolished.

The stadium is home to FC Barcelona and previously had capacity for just under 99,000 people. It is now being expanded to accommodate a total of 105,000 football fans.

The demolition works are being carried out by Spanish circular demolition specialist Hercal Diggers, which recently opened it H-ZERO Plant for C&D waste in Terrassa (Barcelona), and demolition contractor Erri Berri, on behalf of Turkey-headquartered main contractor Limak Construction.

While the first few weeks of the project saw the dismantling of the interior of the stadium, including the pitch, now the 48-metre-high third tier is being brought down.

Most of the structure’s overhang, seating and media boxes have been also removed, and work on the first and second tiers will begin in the coming weeks.

According to FC Barcelona, there are around 250 construction and demolition workers currently onsite, with as many as 1,000 expected to work on stadium over the course of the renovation project.

The renovation project is scheduled to take 34 months and is expected to be completed by July 2026.
