Skanska has signed a final award worth $612 million for the upgrade of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

The deal comes after Skanska was named by Equinor and oil firm BP as construction manager for the project in February last year.

The project involves upgrading the terminal to provide crucial infrastructure for the construction of two offshore wind farm projects, named Empire and Beacon, that will bring 3.3GW of offshore wind power into New York.

South Brooklyn Marine Terminal will be equipped to receive, store and pre-assemble key components for offshore wind turbine, as well as an operations and maintenance base. It wil also feature a substation that will serve as the point of interconnection to link the power from Empire Wind 1 into the local power grid.

Skanska had already signed contracts worth $249 million on the project, having started preconstruction works last year.

The final award facilitates the demolition of existing buildings, dredging new and existing berths, bulkhead upgrades, and installation of new wharf and dock facilities. It also includes infrastructure improvements, new heavy lift crane pads, and the construction of an offshore staging area, as well as the construction of a new operations and maintenance building.

Work covered by the latest award is expected to extend into 2026.
