Supreme award winners 2025 to present Best of the Best project

Coming out on top in the Civils category, the project saw the removal of the 777-metre-long (2,550 ft), cable-stayed bridge which spanned the River Rhine near Duisburg, in Germany, and formed part of the A40 motorway.

This highly complex demolition was completed while maintaining active river traffic and operation of the newly constructed adjacent bridge.

The presentation from the Dutch demolition specialists will examine the reverse-order dismantling strategy, innovative temporary support systems and strict environmental and safety controls required throughout the project.

Founded in 1990, DDM is internationally active in the field of dismantling, relocation, demolition and asbestos removal, as well as selling, trading and reusing industrial installations and other recycling materials.

John has led many complex projects, including the major removal of the Rheinbrücke in Duisburg, which was voted Best of the Best at the World Demolition Awards 2025.

Jorn Vermeer, commercial manager

Jorn Vermeer, DDM

Jorn has over eight years of relevant experience in a commercial environment. In his role as commercial manager, he is responsible for leading and optimising all commercial activities within the DDM Group.

This includes acquiring and successfully delivering new projects, carefully coordinating and managing client inquiries, and developing and maintaining long-term client relationships.

In addition, Jorn plays a key role in strengthening DDM’s international positioning. He actively works to enhance the organisation’s global visibility and to ensure it stands out in the market.
