On-site crushing cuts haulage on large infrastructure projects
21 July 2026
Two major infrastructure projects in India and Australia are demonstrating how contractors are increasingly recycling demolition and excavation material directly on site, reducing truck movements, disposal costs and the demand for virgin aggregates.

In both cases, hydraulic crusher buckets from MB Crusher mounted on excavators were used to process concrete and other demolition material for immediate reuse in the construction works.
On the six-lane Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge project, demolition material generated during construction is being crushed on site and reused as aggregate. The bridge, which crosses the River Ganges, is located in Bihar, eastern India.
According to MB Crusher, a BF90.3 crusher bucket mounted on a Tata Hitachi EX215 excavator is processing concrete into reusable material.
The bucket can reduce blocks of some 250 mm down to 60 mm, thereby avoiding the need to transport the waste away for treatment before bringing aggregate back onto the site.
Meanwhile, at the Somerton Business Park development near Melbourne in Australia, a similar approach is being adopted by Austrak Management & Consulting during the building of a major logistics hub.
The hub extends for more than one kilometre and has direct connections to the region’s main highways and airports.
Here, an MB Crusher BF120.4 crusher bucket was chosen for processing material from excavation and concrete demolition. The recycled material is then used to build internal roads and infrastructure throughout the development.
“By eliminating the need to transport material off site, the company reduced logistics and disposal costs while ensuring continuous operations and dramatically minimising downtime.
“The result was a more efficient jobsite with a significantly lower environmental impact,” said MB Crusher’s press office.
