Building a market for recycled demolition materials in Argentina

At the World Demolition Summit 2026, Miguel Ippolito from Argentine contractor Grupo Mitre will explain how it developed an integrated approach to demolition and construction and demolition waste recycling, and the challenges of making it work commercially.

While some facilities in Argentina process recycled aggregates, the country has no unified national framework for construction and demolition waste or comprehensive national statistics. Grupo Mitre says this makes it harder to trace materials, coordinate recovery and build confidence in recycled products.

As the world’s first B-Corp certified demolition business, the company responded by developing what it describes as Argentina’s first comprehensive private recycling plant for construction and demolition waste.

The project required investment in crushing, screening, shredding and sorting equipment, as well as new processes to produce recycled aggregates for applications including soil stabilisation and concrete.

Grupo Mitre also had to persuade clients and developers to specify recycled materials in a market where demolition contracts rarely reward recovery and the lowest bid often takes priority. Its approach combined technical testing, client engagement and the integration of recycling into major projects.

Miguel will examine the technical, financial and cultural decisions behind the venture, and what its experience could mean for demolition contractors working in markets with limited incentives for recycling.

Grupo Mitre is an Argentine family business with nearly 40 years of experience specialising in large-scale urban demolition, excavation and structural site preparation for major infrastructure developments.
