Product Demolition attachment and technology solutions
Caterpillar is expanding its portfolio of demolition specific attachments and technology solutions for this industry. New attachments and technology solutions offered this year from Caterpillar include:
The HCS coupler, which can couple and un-couple attachments with hydraulic and electrical connections without having to leave the cab.
New dedicated rotating and non-rotating pulveriser that have been updated with the latest speed booster technology and replaceable wear components that reduce weld maintenance and downtime.
PL161 tracker to assist with locating assets, recording actual attachment hours, and working with Cat next gen excavators for work tool recognition to verify correct tool programmes are selected.
Cat Command for up to 340 sized next gen demolition machines. Remote control solution using either line of sight or universal station from anywhere in the world to control machines and keep operators out of harm’s way.
Ease of Use features on next gen Cat UHDs. Technology features such as E-fence, payload/lift assist, hammer auto-stop, and 2D Cat Grade Control are now available to assist operators.

Product High reach boom for KTEG 1600S multicarrier
Two leading companies in the German demolition industry are moving forward together in developing solutions. While Kteg contributed its experience and expertise in the form of engineering services, the managing director of the Hagedorn Group, Thomas Hagedorn, knew exactly what he expected from a modern demolition excavator.
The result of the cooperation is the three-part modular high-reach boom of the KMC1600S, which helps to make demolition work on construction sites with large building heights safer and more efficient. Its reach can be gradually extended from 21 to 36 m (68 to 188 ft).
In this way, it gradually adapts to the progress of demolition work in the power plants that are currently being demolished throughout Europe following their decommissioning.
According to KTEG, here several machines had to be used in the past, driving up labour and transport costs, the modular high-reach boom is used today.
Open S-Alliance
Country Sweden
Product Open-S standard
On 1 October 2020, two leading quick coupler and work tool manufacturers Steelwrist and Rototilt launched the Open-S Standard - an open, brand independent and global standard for fully automatic quick couplers for excavators. The standard was based on the already wide-spread symmetrical quick couplers but now including oil connections.
The Open-S standard is said to be especially applicable for the demolition industry where rapid tool changes and usage of work tools from many different suppliers is very common. The standard allows the operator to combine different manufacturers’ products (quick coupler and work tools) together without fear in terms of safety, technical interference, certification, and being locked-in when being offered less service and support.
The Open-S Alliance, the independent governing body behind the Open-S standard, welcomes all manufacturers in the industry to become members.

Product Datalogger – field service and diagnostic tool for demolition attachments
Datalogger is a measurement device designed for prototype testing and service and diagnostics of demolition attachments.
It is a rugged battery powered unit with wireless connectivity designed for installation directly within the demolition attachment.
The high strength IP67 rated aluminum body houses besides the electronics and 16 input channels also 12V LiPo battery with 26Ah capacity. An external 12V input allows battery charging, external power source or additional battery connection.
After the datalogger installation, the demolition attachment can be used without limitations in the job while the device is capturing and sending valuable data about multiple parameters like hydraulic pressures (tool inlet/outlet, cylinders inlet/outlet, rotating motor inlet/outlet), ambient and oil temperature, cylinder stroke, device GPS location etc.
The data may be captured and transferred in two modes to best meet the purpose of the measurement:
a) Live measurement, where data is sent directly via Wi-Fi to a field engineer on site.
b) Datalogger, where the data are sent over 3G/LTE to a server.
