Wessex goes for Volvo Stage IVs

Southampton, UK, based contractor Wessex Demolition & Salvidge has made its first-ever purchase of Volvo excavators in the shape of Stage IV compliant EC250E and EC300E machines. Both feature a Volvo eight litre engine that delivers 159 kW (213 hp) and 179 kW (240 hp) respectively.

They have been supplied with Volvo’s factory specified options for secondary demolition applications. These include heavy duty belly plates, side impact protection rails, heavy duty boom and bucket cylinder guards, additional mesh grills to protect the engine and cooling system from erroneous particles and FOGs guarding for the operator’s cab. To simplify the use of hydraulically operated attachments such as rotating grapples and shears, the machine has been installed with x3 rotation lines (hammer/shear circuits are standard) and both machines have been supplied with twin lock quick hitches).

According to Wessex contracts manager Ashley Grant: “We were in the market to replace two mid-sized excavators for our demolition fleet and wanted to choose a proven and reliable brand that would give a good return on the total cost of ownership, high residual values along with sound after sales support,” Ashley Grant.

Based on the outskirts of Southampton, Wessex Demolition & Salvage Ltd provides a full demolition and dismantling service throughout the southern half of the UK. Established in 1994, the family run demolition and dismantling business has expanded significantly to include crushing, recycling and ground clearance, employing in excess of 50 personnel.
