Skillings' new Volvo EC480E has been fitted with a re-bar protection system for the tracks

Skillings Crushing Co has added a new Volvo EC480E equipped with the latter's full demolition specification, which includes SIPS protection along the superstructure, slew ring guard, a full FOGS guard over the operator’s cab and guarding for both the boom and bucket cylinders. To facilitate the use of hydraulically operated attachments the machine also benefits from the addition of an optional rotating circuit besides the hammer/shear circuit that comes as standard. The EC480E has also been supplied with a hydraulic quick coupler to pick up on the variety of tools in the Skillings Crushing arsenal of attachments.

Unique features found on the machine are special protection plates for the tracks that are designed to prevent reinforcement bar damaging the underside of the machine’s superstructure. Quite simply if a track throws up a length of re-bar the heavy duty Hardox plates literally chop it up before it has a chance to travel along the top of the tracks.

Skillings’ new EC 480E is fitted with a heavy duty 7 m (23 ft) boom and 3.3 m (10.9 ft) dipper arm and has a digging depth of 7.8 m (25.6 ft) and a reach of 12.1 m (39.7 ft) with a generous load-over height of 7.5 m (24.6 ft). Thus configured the machine provides a breakout force of 284 kN and a tearout force of 220kN.
