The company - a specialist in the sorting and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, has invested in three Sennebogen models to help it processes the 70,000 tons of scrap metal it receives every year.

It added a Sennebogen 835 E with electric drive and two mobile 825 E machines for use at its newest scrap yard, which opened last year and is located just outside of Brussels in Ninove.

Kris Van den Brouck, Managing Director at VBS, said: “When we bought our new handling machines, sustainability was our top priority.

“Last year, we inaugurated a new two-hectare site in Ninove. The ‘Doorn Noord’ business park is all about a greener future.”

According to the managing director, the decision to buy the electric 835 E model was not just based on its environmental benefits.

VBS also chose the model for the technology it offered, as well as for its 160 kW power rating and 18-m reach.

The Sennebogen electric 835 E also boasts a grab volume of 1 cu m, and has been fitted with an additional pylon that makes the cab 2 m higher, to give the operator a better view when loading scrap.

Kris added: “The fact that we save up to 50% on operating costs with the electric bagger is of course a nice bonus.”

While the other two material handlers acquired by the company are the diesel-powered 825 E model, they incorporate an eco-mode that, along with a lower idling speed and an automatic start-stop system, “significantly” lowers their fuel consumption.

Sennebogen said: “The new material handlers significantly increase efficiency on the construction site.

“Both ferrous and non-ferrous metals have shorter throughput times and can be prepared for further processing more quickly.”

VBS’ new material handlers, one of which is fitted with a magnetic grab, were provided by Sennebogen dealer SMT Belgium, which will also service and maintain the machines.
