UK contractor Hughes and Salvidge has won the contract from Sellafield Ltd for the demolition of Building A2 on the latter's Capenhurst site in the north of England near Chester. This is a single storey industrial building covering an area of 10,000 square metres (108,000 square feet) consisting of a structural steel frame with a nine bay North light roof construction covered with profile sheeting. Asbestos removal, soft strip and demolition will commence in March 2012.

The building started life as a munitions factory in the 1950s and was subsequently developed into an apprentice school, stores and associated offices. In 2000, it was altered into two separate areas, one providing archival storage and the other forming part of the West Cheshire College.

According to Greg Lannon, Hughes and Salvidge's Northern Division operations director: "We are very happy to have procured this project with such a prestigious client, showing that we are succeeding with our business plan and strategy to build our client list in the decommissioning sector."
