Next month, delegates, conference speakers, shortlisted awards entrants and sponsors will all head for Toronto, Canada’s Westin Harbour Hotel, where – on 17 and 18 October – the latest WDS will take place.

As in previous years, it will get underway with a drinks reception on the opening evening – in a break with tradition, WDS 2023 is a Tuesday-Wednesday event.

On the morning of Wednesday 18 October, after a breakfast hosted by the Ontario Association of Demolition Contractors, the conference will begin with a keynote presentation from Pierre Migny-Torres and Alexandre Druet of EdF in France, followed by a case study from LaJuan Counts of the City of Detroit Construction and Demolition Department.

Contractors who will share details of high-profile projects include Priestly, York1 Demolition, Controlled Demolition and Thompsons of Prudhoe, while Delsan-AIM will co-present alongside Applied Science International.

The 2022 World Demolition Award (‘Best of the Best’) winner Brandenburg Industrial Service Co will reprise its successful entry about the Johnsonville Power Plant in Tennessee, USA.

Other hot topics to be addressed include a paper by British company Rye Demolition on solutions to people shortages in the industry, while Simone Bruni of Demo Diva will discuss effective marketing for demolition companies in the internet age.

The WDS concludes with the World Demolition Awards dinner, which this year sees more than 50 shortlisted entries contesting 11 awards categories, with confirmation of the additional New Entrant and World Demolition Award winners rounding off the evening.

The WDS is organised by Demolition & Recycling International, in co-operation with the US National Demolition Association and the European Demolition Association. The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
