Speedy COO joins board of sustainability school

Dan Evans, Chief Operating Officer at Speedy, has joined the board of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, which aims to help construction businesses meet the targets set out by the UK Construction Strategy 2025.

Dan Evans CEO of Speedy Dan Evans, COO of Speedy, has become a board member at the Supply Chain Sustainability School.

The Supply Chain Sustainability School represents the needs of over 100 partner businesses and 14,000 sustainability school members. Based in London, the organisation provides free CPD-accredited e-learning modules, training workshops and action plans to help integrate their businesses with more sustainable working practices.

James Cadman, climate action and plant group lead at the Supply Chain Sustainability School, said, “Tool and equipment hire represents a vital element of the industry’s supply chain, and Dan will bring a breadth of experiences and expertise that will expand the knowledge and resources we can share with our members. We look forward to having Dan on our board as we strive towards creating a more sustainable built environment.”

Under Evans’ leadership, Speedy’s Energise programme won the Best Sustainability & CSR Initiative at the Hire Awards of Excellence Awards in 2020. The rental company, which is currently trialling converted electric taxi vans to deliver equipment to London sites, was also recently awarded gold membership for its sustainability efforts by the Supply Chain Sustaintability School.

Evans’ experience in collaborating with customers and suppliers was partly gained through Speedy’s own Partnership Excellence Programme. The programme helps businesses to reduce carbon emissions across the supply chain and to deliver low-carbon logistics programmes for major construction projects such as HS2.

Evans’ said, “Our ESG programme ‘Energise’ sets out a detailed set of KPIs aligned with the UNSDG’s (UN Sustainability Development Goals), and through product and services innovation we have a strong track record of collaborating with our partners across the supply chain to introduce new, sustainable solutions that make a real difference for our customers.”

He added, “I’m looking forward to supporting the Supply Chain Sustainability School in working with its members to meet the industry’s sustainability targets.”

Evans, who is also a non-executive director of a rail civil engineering and plant hire business that serves Network Rail in the UK, will work alongside chairman Shaun McCarthy OBE and eight fellow board members from companies. These include Morgan Sindall, Balfour Beatty, Willmott Dixon, Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci.
