Ben Griffiths is safety, health, environmental and operations director of British contractor Rye Group, and Jonathan Cox is the company’s marketing director. Together, they will discuss the company’s approach to sustainable demolition.

Carbon audits and the SME challenge

Rye Group is a leading SME demolition firm in the UK when it comes to championing environmental initiatives. In this session it will share an overview of its approach to sustainable demolition and its experience running a carbon audit as an SME without dedicated or extensive sustainability personnel.

It will share key challenges faced as an SME, lessons learnt and the progress it has made. The lessons learnt will help other SMEs take their first step in carbon audits in demolition.

Biographies
Ben Griffiths

Ben spent 10 years serving in the British Army before transitioning careers to work with Barratt Homes. Ben joined Rye Group at the beginning of 2021, taking responsibility for driving the business’ agenda in health, safety, environmental and quality. Ben works across the business and brings additional rigour and focus ensuring we strive for continual improvement and compliance across the organisation. Ben is also a qualified member of the Institute of Demolition Engineering and CSCS black card holder.

Jonathan Cox

Jonathan has extensive marketing experience, having worked with major brands such as Mercedes Benz, Total and the Institute of Directors. Having established his own Marketing business in 2019, Jonathan began working with the team at Rye in early 2020 to develop its strategic positioning and profile in the market.

Jonathan has led Rye’s carbon auditing process and worked with the business to implement a variety of environmental measures. He has built up strong media and industry links to share learnings and initiatives and evolving plans.
