Skanska lands US$1.2bn data-centre contract

The contract, equivalent to about SEK 11.2 billion, will be included in the US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026, said the Swedish construction group in its announcement.

The project involves the construction of four data centres with a combined area of approximately 75,000 sq m (808,000 sq ft).

Skanska’s scope includes construction of the building shells and interior fit-out of technical spaces, support areas and offices.

The contractor has not disclosed the identity of the client or the locations of the four facilities.

Construction of the four latest facilities is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to be completed around two years later.

The award adds to a series of major data-centre contracts secured by Skanska in the US this year. These include a $75 million project in Georgia announced in April, followed by an additional $255 million contract in the state in June.

Skanska has also secured a series of data-centre contracts in Virginia, most recently announcing an additional $238 million contract with an existing client earlier this month.

The latest Virginia project includes the construction of a 22,000 sq m (237,000 sq ft) data centre, including five data halls, associated site work and underground site utilities.
