O’Rourke demolishes playing card factory

One of this year’s World Demolition Awards entries, and a shortlisted project in the Recycling and Environmental, O’Rourke Wrecking Company’s decommissioning, abatement and demolition of the former US Playing Card Facility in Ohio, USA, entailed the removal of the former factory and the preservation of a histroic clock tower and smokestack.

O’Rourke’s environmental remediation crews removed asbestos along with other general hazards prior to mass demolition operations.

Around 90% of all debris generated from the project was recycled and diverted from a landfill. This included recycling and crushing of 15,291 cubic metres (20,000 cubic yards) of concrete, the salvage of 250,000 board feet of timbers and the cleaning and of 750,000 bricks for reuse.
