Nuclear role for RVA

13 May 2009

UK CDM specialist RVA has been engaged by British Energy to assess a range of structures within the ‘non-controlled' areas of four of its nuclear power stations in the UK - Hartlepool , Heysham 1, Heysham 2 and Dungeness B. The RVA team of five specialist consultants is providing a range of services, including demolition engineering, estimating and work breakdown structure (WBS) compilation.

The project began in February and is expected to be completed by June, and the project will build up decommissioning profiles for turbine halls, CW pump houses and ancillary and administration buildings. The final report will detail how the structures might be brought down, in what sequence the work should be carried out and how long the work will take, along with estimates of necessary resources, waste disposal protocols and the costs involved for each of the structures.

This data will then be used to form work schedules that will assist with the planning, programming and liability estimations for future decommissioning and associated clean-up work.
