Austria-based Tyrolit, which manufactures tools for industries including concrete cutting, has announced Thomas Friess as the new chairman of its executive board, in an appointment that became effective on 1 January.

The German succeeds Christoph Swarovski, who announced at the end of 2019 that he would step down from the executive board after 20 years in the company’s management, and now joins the Tyrolit advisory board.

Thomas Friess has lived in Austria for 18 years, holding management positions a range of international companies there after similar roles in the USA and Germany.

He has been at Tyrolit since 2019 and an important part of his new position will be advancing digitalisation and developing industries such as medical technology, electrical engineering and environmental technology.

“I am looking forward to this task,” said Thomas.

“Innovative spirit, vision and partnership in practice remain central virtues at Tyrolit, and with the help of innovative technologies, we will ensure the necessary precision within these future industries in the future and also make a valuable contribution to reducing the CO2 footprint.”

As well as Christoph Swarovski, Andreas Buchbauer is also retiring from the Tyrolit management board. The company said it has appointed a new executive board. It includes Andreas Sauerwein, who will represent the construction division.

“Thomas Friess and his team will find a profitable, very healthy Tyrolit group with an excellent international position,” said advisory board chairman Mathias Margreiter.
