The organisers of the World Demolition Awards have updated their award structure, separating the “Recycling and Environmental Award” into two categories.
This change reflects the growing importance of circularity and sustainability in construction and demolition globally.
The newly established Recycling Award will be given to the recycling project that sets the benchmark among the entries at this year’s event in Madrid on 5 November.
It recognises demolition projects that demonstrate outstanding achievement in the recovery, reuse and high-value recycling of materials.
Entries should showcase how the project maximised material recovery, promoted circular economy principles and delivered measurable recycling outcomes.
“The Recycling Award highlights the innovation and commitment of demolition contractors in creating a more sustainable future,” said editor of Demolition & Recycling International Neel Madsen.
“It’s a way to shine a spotlight on projects that go above and beyond in reducing waste and boosting circularity.”
Meanwhile, the award for environmental excellence will honour the demolition project that have most effectively reduced its environmental impact during operations.
Contractors entering the environmental category should be able to demonstrate improvements in emissions, energy use, noise, dust, biodiversity protection and overall site sustainability.
The judges will carefully review both the supporting data as well as overall project performance in determining the winners.
