Germany-based machine manufacturer Hamm, a Wirtgen Group brand, has released its newest Stage V (EU) and Tier 4f (US) compactor, the HC 250i C VC

Hamm says the unit can reduce a project’s emissions by up to 50%, depending on the application.

The type designations ‘C’ and ‘VC’ represent the inclusion of a reinforced drum drive (C) and ‘vibration crusher’, which offers crushing and compaction in a single operation.

According to the OEM, the 250i can crush and compact mixed soils, stones such as basalt and granite, and other construction materials with comparable pressure resistance in a single work-step.

“In addition to the customary crushing and compacting of geological material to create a stable substrate, the machines are also utilised to level rubble in landfill sites. The VC compactor can also be called upon for road planing works in tunnel building and surface mining sectors or to pre-crush and loosen stone,” said the company in a press release.

It has a six-cylinder Deutz TCD 6.1 L6 diesel engine and runs above 200 hp on 160 kW of power.

The operating weight, including the cab, is 53,515 lbs (24 t).

Hamm compactor features new tool holder system

Hamm says a highlight of the new VC compactor is the tool holder system that is compatible with round-shank cutting tools for stone and has wear-resistant heavy-duty cutting tools with carbide tips and hard facing for use on hard and abrasive stone.

“The configuration of the tool holder system, and the way the tool inserts attach, have been designed to ensure assembly and removal are quick and easy with no need for specialist tools,” says Hamm. “This keeps maintenance and servicing costs low.”
