Caterpillar has introduced a new Stage IIIB compliant 314E L CR compact radius tracked excavator aimed at the European market that, says the company, offers a fuel flexible engine, an efficient hydraulic system and a range of booms and dippers allied to a refined operator environment and easy serviceability. Depending on the specification, the machine weighs in at 14.5 to 17.1 tonnes

Power comes from a Cat C4.4 ACERT engine developing 67 kW (91 hp) that can use either ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) or a biofuel blend of ULSD and up to 20% bio-diesel meeting the EN14214 standard. The engine offers two power modes – high and economy – to provide efficient fuel consumption depending on the application.

Twin main hydraulic pumps, positioned side by side, are driven directly from the engine and a electronically controlled regeneration valve in the boom-down circuit saves fuel and minimises heat by recycling oil between boom cylinder ends, eliminating the need for pumping. The main control valve can work with any form of tool to provide maximum versatility.

The machine features rugged mainframes and a long undercarriage with double solid pin type rollers in robust track frames. Two counterweight options offer weights of 3.06 and 3.56 tonnes and three boom types are available: a reach-type for versatility, a variable angle boom for flexibility and versatility and a power offset variant for maximum productivity in confined spaces.
