The National Demolition Association has awarded demolition veteran and first president of the Association Sheldon J. 'Red' Mandell the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the important role he played in the development of the Association. The Award was presented at the NDA's convention in Las vegas.

Currently chairman of the board of National Wrecking Company, Sheldon was one of the original founders of the NDA (or national Association of Demolition Contractors as it was then known) 37 years ago. He functioned as president from 1973 to 1975 and also served on the executive committee and board of directors for five year. According to NDA executive director Mike Taylor: "Red helped launch the NDA when it was a small group of member companies looking to raise the professionalism and image of our industry."
