Liebherr to premiere three new 50-tonne excavators at Steinexpo

Liebherr will premiere three new crawler excavators designed for the 50-tonne segment at the Steinexpo show in Germany.
The new machines are the R 948 G8, the R 952 G8, and the R 958 G8 models.
Designed to handle earthmoving, extraction, and heavy-duty applications, they will be kitted out with the latest assistance and machine technologies and the new emCAB operator’s cab.
Liebherr said the R 948 G8, designed for earthmoving works, features an LC chassis, specialist equipment and optimised motorisation to ensure low fuel consumption without compromising on power.
Meanwhile, the R 952 G8 has three different variants of chassis, a wide choice of equipment variants, and increased engine power.

Separately, the R 958 G8 has been developed for mining work and features robust S-HD chassis, Liebherr’s mass excavation (ME) equipment, and specialist options for optimising performance in mining operations.
All the machines have an easy-to-reach platform for accessing the engine, secure access points, and an automatic central lubrication system.
They also offer Liebherr Power Efficiency (LPE) to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10% while maintaining power levels, a Bucket Fill Assist (BFA) system, and Modetronic function to adjust the machine parameters to the requirements of every application.
They are also fitted with an integrated passive 2D control system as standard, developed in collaboration with Leica Geosystems, as well as a built-in dynamic weighing system.

A 3D control system is available as an optional extra, which can be expanded with semi-automated functions.
Designed for comfort and intuitive and customisable operation, the new emCAB operator cabins feature the INTUSI human-machine interface.
Camera assistance systems are also available as standard, with the Skyview 360° system that offers an all-round bird’s eye view of the excavator available as an optional extra.
The 12th edition of Steinexpo 2026 takes place in real quarry conditions in 2-5 September in Homberg/Nieder-Ofleiden, Germany.
