For more than half a century, the large chimney of the former Puertollano thermal power plant, in the province of Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, in Spain, was part of the city’s industrial landscape.

As part of the dismantling project led by Spanish demolition specialist Erri Berri, the 120 m structure has successfully been demolished using a controlled blast.

“This high-precision operation, carefully planned and coordinated by our technical teams, allowed us to bring down the chimney cleanly and safely,” said Javier Vidaurre, production manager at Erri Berri.

“This milestone is the result of collaborative work between our professionals, in close partnership with the technical teams of the owner Repsol Generación Ciclos Combinados SLU, as well as with blasting specialists who participated in this phase of the process: dMol Demoliciones.”

The sequence shown in this video encapsulates what lies behind it all: engineering, planning and control at the highest level. With the chimney’s demolition, an icon of the old power plant disappears, following the dismantling of a large part of the buildings and structures.
