As well as celebrating its 75th year of engine manufacturing, Perkins Engines is also celebrating another milestone the production of its 500,000th 400 Series engine. The unit, one of the 404C-22 units, will not be sold but will go on display at the company's Peterborough, UK, headquarters.

Production of the 400 engines began in 2001 at Peterborough, with a new facility opened in Griffin, Georgia, in the USA during 2004 to service the demands of North American equipment manufacturers.

According to Perkins Shibaura general manager Michael Wright: “Half a million engines is an incredible feat given the relatively short time the 400 Series has been in production. It is testimony to the rapid market acceptance that is the hallmark of the engine and the 'can-do' attitude of the workforce that has taken this product onto the world stage.”

The 400 finds use in a wide range of smaller equipment from mini excavators and small tractors through to lawn and garden equipment,.
