The company will present the model at the National Demolition Association’s Annual Convention and Expo - Demolition San Antonio, in Texas, United States, which takes place this week.

Described as “a highly versatile machine that’s easily reconfigurable for changing work demands”, Komatsu says the PC490HRD-11 is engineered to help customers achieve higher efficiency on the demolition job site.

The high reach excavator, which has operating weight of between 55.2 and 73.4 t, is fitted with a six-cylinder diesel engine that provides 362 hp (270 kW) of power.

Incorporating an expandable undercarriage and a tilting cap, the PC490HRD-11 offers six different working arrangements and can be fitted with a boom extension or an extended digging boom.

It includes the manufacturer’s in-house boom change system, with oversized quick connectors for the hydraulic lines that minimise back pressure and oil heating without restricting oil flow. This system also features hydraulically powered pins mounted inside the main boom structure, which helps reduce the risk of damage to the equipment during reconfiguration.

While the PC490HRD-11 will be on display at the live demolition area at Demolition San Antonio, the manufacturer also has another equipment debut planned.

For the first time in the region, the company will also showcase a special demolition specification of its PC360LC-11 excavator at the show, which begins tomorrow and ends on 9 March.

The demolition version of the PC360LC-11 will be launched in the North American market within the next year.
