NFDC calls for investment certainty and skills support in Autumn Budget
26 October 2026
Greater certainty over infrastructure investment, support for skills and incentives for material reuse should be priorities in the UK government’s upcoming Autumn Budget, according to Adrian Corrigan, president of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC).
He has called for measures that give demolition contractors the confidence to invest in equipment and their workforce, while recognising the sector’s role in regeneration and redevelopment.
“The NFDC would like to see a clear commitment to supporting the construction industry, with greater certainty around infrastructure investment, practical support for businesses and long-term investment in skills,” he said.
While demolition plays an essential role in regeneration and redevelopment, its contribution is often overlooked, he stated, adding that “a strong and reliable pipeline of projects would give our members the confidence to invest in their businesses, equipment and workforce.”

The association would also welcome greater support for apprenticeships and specialist training to help businesses attract new talent and develop the skilled workforce the industry needs for the future.
Corrigan also highlighted sustainability and the circular economy as priorities.
He said, “Incentives that encourage the reuse and recovery of materials, alongside greater recognition of demolition expertise in the early planning stages, would help the construction sector move towards a more circular economy.”
In conclusion, Corrigan commented, “Above all, we want a Budget that gives responsible businesses the confidence to grow, supports high standards of safety and competence, and recognises demolition as an important part of Britain’s future development.”
