Hitachi expands electric range with 13-tonne excavator

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV has introduced the ZX135-7EB, its largest battery-powered excavator, designed to meet growing demand for emission-free operation.

The new ZX135-7EB produces zero exhaust emissions, runs more quietly than comparable diesel machines and offers reduced maintenance and downtime, according to Hitachi.
Delivering performance similar to the ZX135-7 diesel excavator, the 13-tonne battery-electric machine is suited to urban and residential projects with strict emissions and noise limits.
Hitachi stated that the excavator’s dual-mode capability enables extended working hours and continuous operation.
It can operate either in battery-powered mode using 198 kWh lithium-ion batteries or in wired grid assist mode, which allows the machine to continue working while connected to a CEE 400 V AC three-phase power supply.
The electric drive system, including battery status and motor load factor, can be monitored remotely, while the lower external sound levels allow increased flexibility in working hours.
Safety features include the Aerial Angle camera system, providing a 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the working area.
