First Volvo electric wheel loader debuts in France

France-based construction firm Roger Martin Group has become the first company in the country to take delivery of the Volvo L120 Electric wheel loader.

Launched last year, the L120 Electric is powered by a 282 kWh lithium-ion battery and is designed for applications including construction, waste and recycling, urban infrastructure, agriculture and indoor or noise-sensitive environments.
The machine is equipped with an energy recuperation system that captures braking energy and feeds it back into the battery, extending operating time.
According to Volvo CE, the loader can operate for between five and nine hours on a single charge, depending on the duty cycle and application.
Charging time is quoted at under two hours using fast charging, allowing the machine to be recharged between shifts or during planned breaks.
Noise levels inside the cab are rated at 70 dB, which is lower than equivalent diesel models and may help reduce operator fatigue while also limiting noise disturbance on urban or indoor sites.
The electric drivetrain also eliminates local exhaust emissions, improving air quality in enclosed or populated working environments.
Volvo said maintenance requirements are reduced compared with diesel machines, as the L120 Electric does not require engine oil, fuel filters or diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
The L120 Electric is also said to offer comparable performance to the diesel-powered L120, with higher power output and faster machine response in certain applications. A load-sensing hydraulic system is designed to support smooth and efficient operation while optimising energy use.

The machine was delivered by Volvo CE dealer Kleber Malecot.
