A former ironworks at Bytom-Brobek in Poland is currently being demolished by a 32 tonne Hitachi ZX280LCN-3, with a 23.7 tonne Hitachi ZX220 carrying out loading on trucks for onward transportation.

Coal handling company FHU MEDEX began work on the 600,000 square metre (6.5 million foot) site in 2006 and expects to be working on the site until 2013. To date, it has produced 200 tonnes of aggregate, which is sold for use in road construction, and there are many more tonnes to be removed from the site.

Once all the material is removed, the site will be reclaimed and transformed into a thick forest.

The two machines were supplied by Hitachi's official dealer in Poland, Tona, and FHU MEDEX has plans to place orders for a further two excavators from Tona, a ZX350LCN-3 and a ZX250W-3.
