While the world looks ahead to November’s US electoral showdown between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the European Demolition Association (EDA) is preparing for a presidential inauguration of its own.

Safedem managing director William Sinclair will succeed Pilar de la Cruz – who has come to the end of her term in office – as president of the association at this week’s EDA Convention.

Appropriately enough, the handover is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, the same country where Dundee-based Safedem operates from.

And the presidency is the latest in a long line of honours for the fourth-generation demolition man, who is a past president of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) and has also been elected to sit on the board of the Institute of Demolition Engineers.

The succession will take place at a gala dinner at Glasgow’s Trades Hall, which also includes the announcement of the NFDC Lifetime Achievement Award.

This follows a full day conference featuring speakers from countries including Germany, Italy and Sweden.
